Main street -- or any other major street -- is expensive to rent space from. Why not look at the streets behind major streets? Of course, foot traffic isn’t as common, however, that’s where your ability to sell yourself in other ways comes in.

Yeah, you’ll have to put the time into it, but it works. Don’t believe it? Take a look at any successful business. Google their name and you’ll find in a heartbeat that people are talking about them a lot.
Similarly, you can get your small business out and noticed in the same fashion. Plus, the best part is, you’ll save a whole bunch on your rent most of the time and can even put some of that money you’re saving towards paid advertising.
Again, remember, every business is different. There are some businesses that absolutely need to be in a central location in order to survive like the vet clinic example. However, many businesses are alive and highly successful even though they’re located in what would have been deemed a “No-no” location 20 years ago.
Technology is your best friend. It can turn your small business into everything you want it to be if you put the time and resources into it. If you choose to ignore technology, chances are, you’ll need to be located in a perfect location in order to keep up with the ever-changing world. Remember, location isn’t everything anymore.
