Health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs) for ALEs
An HRA is an IRS-approved health benefit that allows employers to reimburse their employees tax-free for qualifying medical expenses such as health insurance premiums and other out-of-pocket expenses. You simply set a monthly allowance for your employees to use and approve their eligible expenses for reimbursement.
As an ALE, you can offer an individual coverage HRA (ICHRA) to satisfy the ACA's employer mandate. An ICHRA enables employers to set custom allowance amounts for different groups of employees based on job-based criteria.
If you offer a group plan, you can pair it with a group coverage HRA (GCHRA) to supplement your employees’ health benefits and cover out-of-pocket expenses such as deductibles.

Step 2: Employees make eligible medical purchasesOnce your benefit is set up, your employees can use their allowances. Eligible expenses can include anything listed under IRS Publication 502. Employees then submit proof of incurred expenses through our software.
Step 3: Review and approve expensesOnce employees submit their eligible expenses and documentation, the PeopleKeep documentation review team experts will review your employees’ submissions for you. Once approved, you can reimburse them through payroll, check, cash, or bank transfer.
