Maine Health Insurance Exchange Update - Individual Health Plan Rates

Recently, the Maine Bureau of Insurance announced the proposed carriers and individual health plan rates that will be offered through the federally-run Maine Health Insurance Exchange. There will be two carriers selling health plans on the individual health exchange - Anthem and Maine Community Health Options.Maine Health Insurance Exchange Rates

The Maine Health Insurance Exchange estimates that up to 250,000 Maine residents may purchase health insurance through the new exchange, including 130,000 who are currently uninsured.

Maine Health Insurance Exchange - Individual Health Plan Rates 

The Maine Bureau of Insurance released proposed plan rates for individual health plans that will be available through the new exchange. Open enrollment starts October 1, 2013 for plan coverage starting January 1, 2014.

Here's a look at sample plan rates, provided by the Maine Bureau of Insurance:

  • A 40-year-old living in Portland (non-tobacco use) would pay a monthly premium of $373.72 for a Gold plan from Maine Community Health Options or $376.74 for the comparable Anthem Gold plan (before any health insurance premium subsidies).

  • A 30-year-old living in Waldo County (non-tobacco use) would pay a monthly premium of $288.62 for a Silver plan from Maine Community Health Options or $332.57 for the comparable Anthem Silver plan (before any subsidies).

  • A 50-year-old living in Portland (non-tobacco use) would pay a monthly premium of $327.91 for a Bronze plan from Maine Community Health Options or $426.28 for the comparable Anthem Bronze plan (before any subsidies).
