Did you know 52 percent of all U.S. workers are employed by micro and small business? While large, well-known corporations are much more likely to steal headlines, micro and small businesses in America are a driving force of the economy. 

Why? How? Here are some interesting statistics on how small business dominates the economy, according to a new infographic by CBS Small Business Pulse:

  • 99 percent of independent enterprises employ fewer than 500 people

  • 52 percent of all U.S. workers are employed by small business

  • Small business employs 39 percent of all workers in the tech industry

  • The average annual revenue of a small business is $3.6 million

  • 19.6 million people work for companies with fewer than 20 workers

  • 18.4 million people work for companies with 20-99 workers
