Michigan Health Insurance Exchange Update - Carriers Announced

Recently, the Michigan Health Insurance Exchange announced that fourteen (14) insurance carriers will be offering plans through the Exchange.

The Michigan Health Insurance Exchange will launch October 1, 2013 with plan coverage beginning January 1, 2014. Michigan's Health Insurance Exchange will be run through the federally-facilitated exchange, although Michigan is maintaining oversight of the plan management functions. Carriers Filing Plans for Michigan Health Insurance Exchange

According to the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS), the following carriers have filed to offer plans through the health insurance exchange:

  1. Alliance Health and Life Insurance Company (Individual and Small Group)

  2. Blue Care Network of Michigan (Individual and Small Group)

  3. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (Individual, Multi State Plan, and Small Group)

  4. Consumers Mutual Insurance of Michigan (CO-OP) (Individual and Small Group)

  5. Health Alliance Plan (Individual and Small Group)

  6. Humana Medical Plan of Michigan, Inc. (Individual)

  7. McLaren Health Plan (Individual and Small Group)

  8. Meridian Health Plan of Michigan, Inc. (Individual)

  9. Molina Healthcare of Michigan (Individual)

  10. Physicians Health Plan (Individual and Small Group)

  11. Priority Health (Individual and Small Group)

  12. Priority Health Insurance Company (Individual and Small Group)

  13. Total Health Care USA (Individual and Small Group)

  14. United Healthcare Life Insurance Company (Small Group)

All plans will meet the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements and will be offered in levels of coverage for consumers to easily shop for and compare coverage. The online exchange will facilitate a one-application process to screen consumers for eligibility with premium discounts through the individual premium tax subsidies, and for Medicaid. 

Michigan DIFS will review and certify all plans to ensure compliance with the ACA. Plans are expected to be finalized later this summer in time for the launch of the exchange October 1, 2013.
